Array Five
May 18, 2005
Myself and IDI are proud to announce the new version of ARRAY was launched last night. If you are not familiar with ARRAY, it is an online application that gives corporations a way to provide personal websites to their sales force teams. Via Viente is our first client to launch on ARRAY 5.0. With over thousand of Via Viente sales representatives, Array makes it quick and easy for any of them to get a website.
The design of ARRAY 5.0 has been in development for well over a year now. The design of ARRAY is very flexible, easy to update, and still allowing Corporate control on what is presented on the websites. This is a significant upgrade for us because it was built from the ground up and we hope it is flexible enough to add on to it.
Under the hood
Looking under the hood is where you can see a lot of changes from the previous version.
- Base code: php
- HTML: xhtml 1.0 transitional, CSS 2
- Oracle databse
- Various instances of sifr used
- Separation of content with lexicons
Let me explain this one. We separated all of the content, any text, on a page into a file called a lexicon. This enables us to quickly translate pages in to other languages without touching the html code.
I wish I could go over everything we did with this release like the website editor—it uses CSS and javascript to resize a website into small thumbnail so people can edit their website’s layout easily. Expect me to talk about this one later.
So if you want to check out ARRAY Five visit myViaOffice. To see most of the functionality you will have to be a Via Viente Representative, and sign up. However, Here is an example of one of the public websites built by ARRAY. For you code geeks, look for the hcard on this page.
We are already planning what to do add on the next phase of ARRAY. And we have to say thanks to Via Viente for being the first on this new. They are a future looking company an be sure to check out Via Viente’s product “Alive with Youth”. Probably one the only health drinks that tastes good.
